According to Marca, Bayern will trigger the €85m release clause of world champion Lucas Hernández and sign him in January!
Bayern Munich’s desire to trigger Lucas Hernandez’s release clause has sent shockwaves through Atletico Madrid, who are trying to ward off the interest of the German club.
Los Rojiblancos are now pushing to keep the defender until the summer. The story came out via a MARCA report last week, with it explained that Bayern are willing to pay the France international’s release clause of 80 million euros in January.
After initially rejecting the report, Atletico are now pushing to halt the operation.Chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has tried to change the player’s mind, as have some of his teammates in the dressing room, including Antoine Griezmann, but he has replied by saying that he has already made up his mind.
Gil Marin’s response was to call Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, his counterpart at Bayern, to ask the club not to activate the release clause in January, as a mid-season exit would significantly hurt Los Rojiblancos.
While some media outlets such as Mediaset have reported that Bayern continue to think about the player for the start of the winter market, the reality is that the directors at the Bavarian club would rather avoid a hostile transfer.
They have a good relationship with Atletico and know that postponing the transfer to the summer of 2019 would allow them to sign Lucas in a more amicable manner. Whether or not they do hold off remains to be seen, but what is clear is that this story has many more twists and turns to come.
