Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, according to reports. The Premier League champions are looking to strengthen the left side of their defence and are targeting players who could provide competition for Marcos Alonso.
Palmieri, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, has barely featured for Roma this season due to a knee injury and has played just 16 minutes of football in Serie A so far. But the Brazilian left-back is now close to completing a move to Stamford Bridge, according to The Sun.
The report also claims that the 23-year-old will cost the Premier League champions £20 million. ‘There’s still nothing certain, we are in a stage of discussion and evaluations,’ Palmieri’s agent Fernando Garcia told Calciomercato. Asked if the transfer could be finalised this month, Garcia replied: ‘Of course, yes, absolutely. ‘The two clubs are now talking, we’ll see if it will be successful.’
