Barcelona did come close to securing the signing of PSG attacker Angel Di Maria during the summer transfer window, the player has revealed.
Following the departure of Neymar to the Argentine’s current club, the Blaugrana considered Di Maria as one of the options to replace him.
As MARCA reported at the time, the deal was rather close before the Catalan club opted for a move for Ousmane Dembele instead.
“I was close to joining Barcelona in the summer and yet far away at the same time,” the ex-Real Madrid winger told ESPN.

“It is hard to complete moves to these clubs. I never lost hope of it going through but in the end, it didn’t happen.
“My Madrid past wouldn’t have been an issue as I’m not a Madrid fan and I always point that out whenever I’m asked about it.
“I’m a fan of Rosario and I would never play for Newell’s Old Boys but aside from that, I would play anywhere.”
The former Manchester United man has struggled for playing time in attack due to the prominence of the Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Neymar front line.
This season, the 29-year-old has become a luxury substitute at the Parc des Princes but also interestingly revealed in the same interview that he is undergoing psychological help in order to help deal with his issues in picking up injuries so quickly.
