Former Ghana international , Augustine Ahinful, has stated that Avram Grant should take full responsibility for the West Africans’ defeat to Egypt in Alexandria this past weekend.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 loss to the Pharaohs who now top the group standings by six points. The Black Stars have only accumulated a single point from their opening two games; having been held to a goalless draw in Tamale by Uganda in their opening 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
According to Ahinful, who started his career at German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, Grant should bear the brunt of the blame for Ghana’s winless-run.
“He (Avram Grant) is the head coach of the team and has been in charge of the games being played by his charges. So, if he has performed poorly in those games, definitely he should be the one to be blamed and must be held responsible for such woeful results as well,” Arhinful is quoted as saying on Kumasi-based Silver FM.
“Now that the game against Egypt has come to an end, I think he should be questioned as to what went wrong.”
Former Chelsea and West Ham United tactician, Grant, has come under increased pressure with the 61-year-old having failed to travel back to Ghana with the Associations official’s in the aftermath of their defeat in Egypt.
The Israeli mentor led Ghana to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations; losing on penalties to the Ivory Coast.
