MANCHESTER UNITED will reportedly make an audacious attempt to steal Philippe Coutinho from the clutches of Barcelona.

Barcelona are expected to reignite their interest in Coutinho once the January transfer window opens.

The Catalan club were desperate to sign Coutinho in the summer but had three bids rejected by Liverpool, despite the Brazilian handing in a transfer request.

Liverpool have been clear that they will not entertain selling the 25-year-old.

And Jurgen Klopp reiterated Liverpool’s intention to keep hold of Coutinho this week in a statement by handing Coutinho the captain’s armband against Swansea.

Barcelona have been constantly linked with a move, be it in January or certainly at the end of the season.

However, Spanish outlet Don Balon now claim the La Liga outfit could face surprise competition from United.

The report states both clubs are prepared to table huge offers for Coutinho while Paris Saint-Germain are also touted as possible suitors.

Barcelona have been on the charm offensive in recent weeks with players speaking out about Coutinho’s potential arrival.

And Paulinho was the most recent, stating he has already contacted the Liverpool midfielder and jokes a house search is already under way.

“I make jokes that people are already looking for a house for him,” Paulinho told Mundo Deportivo.

“I try to give him the basic information, the most important for him and his family, because maybe the time he lived here was not enough to know the city, but he knows that Barcelona is a very good city, that offers everything for him and his family.”
