Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie has turned her attention to the world stage after lifting the Africa Women Nations Cup title in Cameroon earlier this year.
The striker scored three goals in the tournament including vital strikes in the semifinal to beat South Africa and a goal in the final to beat hosts Cameroon.
Speaking after the tournament victory, Oparanozie said she was impressed with her side but now they need to turn their attention to the world stage and compete with the best women’s teams in football.
“I am honoured to have scored the only goal in the semi-final and the only goal that made us beat Cameroon in the final,” said Oparanozie.
“It didn’t matter whether I started all the matches or not. What was important was that we won and made history.
“The level of women’s football in Africa is really on the high.
“A couple of teams are coming up and we now know there are a lot of teams that really want to give us a run for our money.
“It is quite impressive. I will urge every other country to keep doing what they are doing.
“It is not going to be in Africa but let us do better on the world stage.”
